Disregarding seismology and changes in the length-of-day, geomagnetism provides our only means of probing the deep interior of the Earth. In principle, geomagnetic data can tell us about the conductivity profile of the mantle, the radius and shape of the core, and about motions within the core. There are a few problems to be sorted out first.
