Summer Research Scholarships (formerly Vacation Scholarships)

Each year the School of Mathematics and Statistics and the Faculty of Science award a number of summer research scholarships for tenure in the summer vacation (December – February). These scholarships are typically advertised in August/September.

As well as scholarships offered by the School of Mathematics and Statistics and the Science Faculty, there are scholarships offered by AMSI (the Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute) which are tenable in the School. If you are a 2nd or 3rd year student at the University of Sydney and have an HD average in advanced maths/stats units then you are eligible to apply for the AMSI VRS. A list of projects can be found here. Applications for AMSI VRS 2024/25 are open now, and close 16 September 2024. However, before applying directly to AMSI you need to apply within the University of Sydney before Friday 6 September.

All applicants to the AMSI VRS are encouraged to also apply for the Denison scholarship when it opens. Application for the Denison scholarships is through the Faculty of Science Denison Research Scholarships and Science Research Experience Scholarships. The value of the AMSI VRS Scholarship will be topped up to the same level as the Denison Scholarship.
