    Class field theory

    Class field theory gives a classification of all abelian extensions of local fields and number fields. In this talk I'll present an overview of the basic results (existence, uniqueness, "special properties") and give some aplications like the solvability of norm equations (which is interesting for representation theory and embedding problems) and construction of fields with special Galois groups.
