The purpose of this chapter is to outline the theory of integrals of functions of more than one variable, called multiple integrals. We discuss the theory for functions in two variables in some detail. The only difference to more variables is that it is possible to visualise what we are doing. We do not give rigorous proofs but explain in quite some detail the ideas behind the theory. Rigorous proofs can for instance be found in [2].
